Jugnoo Wall of Same

It’s no secret that we’re a pretty tight-knit crew over here at Jugnoo, but after all those extra hours that we’ve been putting in to the amazing new platform revamp and our epic Trap A Trend competition, it’s looks like we’re starting to share a brain. That’s seems like the most logical conclusion, since no one will admit to the obvious collusion.
Same on all of us Jugnoo-ers! Maybe it’s time we start tweeting our daily wardrobe plans?

Foursquare or Be Square

Yesterday was 4/16 or for the social media (and math) nerds it was 42. Why are squaring four when we could just say 16? Well, yesterday was international Foursquare Day. Foursquare is a location-based platform that awards people with badges, points and ‘mayorships’ when they check into merchants locations around the world. Fans have decided to come together to celebrate the calendar day most appropriate- 4 squared, or 4/16.

Jugnoo was out in full force at the Toronto event (#4sqDayYYZ) as we are massive advocates of the platform—we even made a special trip to the Foursquare tent at SXSW. We also have a running competition within the office to see who can keep the office’s mayoral crown the longest. (Some people are becoming extra competitive and setting up locations for each room in the office. If this keeps up, every employee will be mayor of a piece of the office by the end of the week…)

We ran a competition to award the most active Foursquare user in Toronto with a new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. A big shoutout goes to Rannie T. for keeping Foursquare in business with 10,880 check-ins, 84 badges, and 62 mayorships—WOWZA!

We’re glad we got to meet everyone IRL. A big thank you to the Pilot Tavern for hosting an awesome party. Can’t wait until 4/16 of next year!

Oh and look, it’s Tim dancing with Alli from Gelaskins!

Creativity and Cupcakes

At Jugnoo HQ in Toronto, we are working diligently to make our product amazing both functionality-wise and aesthetically. As we are drawn to all things beautiful, such as Prairie Girl’s lovely cupcakes, we want you to be drawn to our delicious, calorie-free platform. We’re kind of similar to Prairie Girl—they use colourful icing to attract the eye (and stomach) and bake cake that could give Betty Crocker a run for their money. How does this apply to JugnooMe? Well, we strive to provide a graphically stimulating brand design that covers our secret cake recipe. The way we do this is through our outstanding Creative Team (our in-house Cake Bosses)!

They have a room full of Big Macs (not the hamburgers) and colour papers spread across the walls. Without further ado meet the Creative Team!

Day 6: Tradeshow Tuesday

We had been waiting for this day since we left Toronto. We could not wait to see all the new tech that is being showcased and see how bigger companies are using digital to reach new audiences. Someone on our team wanted to see how many free t-shirts they could acquire by walking through the show. We were not let down and even signed ourselves up for StartUp Idol. Stay tuned for details. Also, the total t-shirt count was 18 (too many to fit in our suitcases).

We loved the entire experience! It was extremely busy. Nonstop moving. Some people were calling it the grown-up spring break, which was completely accurate… our livers can attest. There was always something that you could be doing and people to meet. We’re already counting down the days here at Jugnoo HQ until next year’s SXSW. Cannot wait!

Day 5: Made it to Monday

We’ve been in town for 4 days now and we’ve begun to understand the gist of things. Want to know what that means? That it’s Jugnoo time! We hit the streets to show Austin our vibrant orange logo and spread the message.  We attached t-shirts to helium balloons and stood on the corner of Congress and 7th. Rob Blatt hung out with us for a bit showing off his Warby Parker glasses (we’re sold and might do a mass order) while Rachel Helen told us about recent tech that she’s writing about.  We later spotted two pedestrians rocking our tees. Can’t wait to see where these shirts end up. Make sure to take a picture of yourself wearing a Jugnoo tee and share it with us!

Julie also met up with Sara Peralta, a really great journalist from the University of Texas, and shared Jugnoo’s story with her. It was really great fun—keep an eye out for the article soon!

We went out for a killer sushi dinner as a team and enjoyed an assortment of maki, sashimi, and sushi at Maiko Sushi Lounge. Happy hour meant happy tummies and we stuffed ourselves to the gills on half-price items (we love being economical!).

Afterward, we headed to Peche bistro to try some absinthe and meet up with Jugnoo blogger Rohn Jay Miller and friends. We met some really cool people, including the former head of innovation at Apple! Did you know they envisioned the iPad in 1983?! Crazy.

Not to tarnish our reputation, but we called it an early night to get a good night’s rest for the SXSW tradeshow the next day. More to come…

Day 4: Sunny Sunday Funday!

We woke up to be greeted with something that we had yet to cross paths with—the sun! This automatically ensured that it was going to be a great day. We hopped into our summer clothes (which was the only things we packed) and headed straight down town. We decided to change up the routine a bit and rather then going to StartUp Village we went to the Marketing and Branding sessions at the InterContinental. Mat hit up the Freshbooks RV to hang out with Amanda Rappak. While he was wooing the Freshbooks team with his English accent, Julie discovered MakerBot, which became her newest obsession. Needless to say we are now equipped with super cool plastic SXSW badges.

Prior to this day, we had spent all of our time together so we decided that we celebrate our independence and reconvene for a team dinner. We also unanimously decided that it would be a perfect day to try real Texan BBQ at Iron Works. If you are in Austin, this place is a must visit- especially if you like meat. After a large hearty meal, we headed to the Mashable party at Buffalo Billards. When we RSVP’d to this party we couldn’t really understand the connection between Nature Valley and SXSW. At the party, we met a great man Scott Baldwin  from General Mills who explained their new app that maps conservation trails throughout North America. If you get a chance, check it out! A huge project for a good cause and might be the app of the summer for hikers and bikers a like.

The night wouldn’t be complete if we only hit up one party so off to the Cheezburger/Bing Party. Rumors were circulating about this being the best party of the week therefore we had to check it out. When we got there we just missed a performance by Fun., but the party was still in full swing and there were candy cheeseburgers everywhere! The party was pretty awesome and there is photo documentation- see it here.

After all the inside parties let out, the festivities travelled into the streets where amusing chaos took place. Interstellar Transmissions were even playing on top of a driving school bus! Another conclusion: people love school buses. Especially us and the Jugnoo Love Bus that got us home safely after our night out.
